Khwela volunteered for Mandela day

Khwela Youth Tourism Stars team celebrated their Mandela Day by giving their time and helping hand out clothes to hundreds of homeless people in an initiative organised by washing line in collaboration with ladles of love.

Michaela Geldhof (23) , founder of Washing Line, a small sustainable fashion start-up which aims to give back opened up The Street Store to the homeless in Cape Town this past Mandela Day.

By opening up The Street Store for a day, Michaela created a free and safe space for homeless people to choose clothes that they actually wanted, giving them a more dignified experience where they were given the opportunity to reclaim their style or simply to just feel a bit warmer in a jacket without holes. With all the donations Michaela and her team were able to clothe 900 homeless people: "I couldn't be more grateful to everyone who donated and volunteered, thank you! This will be the first of many initiatives like this as everyone should have the opportunity to wear the confidence and comfort that fashion can bring. We can all help in a sustainable way!"
