Fikile's Bungee Jumping Journey: Photo Gallery
Khwela alumni Fikile Ndarala Bungee Jumping Journey: I was not planning on bungee jumping, at all. I was just accompanying my fellow students for support and encouragement but when I got to the Bloukrans bridge I also felt the urge to do it as I saw others getting excited for their turns.
I asked for my name to be added to the list of those who are going to jump. When we arrived at the bridge I started questioning my decision though. I kept asking myself ‘should I do this?’. But I saw my fellow students doing it and coming back alive and I thought I could do it too.
I changed my mind again when it was my turn to jump - but the guards were encouraging and my fellow students were cheering me on, so I summoned the courage to jump. I jumped and in that moment when I was hanging from the rope - it hit me what I did and I started praying and screaming for my mother. After a few minutes of hanging from the rope I saw the guide coming down from the bridge and that is when I started being hopeful that someone was coming to rescue me.
The moment I got back up to the bridge I screamed with joy because I did it and I was feeling so great that I have done something I never thought I would do. It's a life changing decision to jump off a bridge and at the end of it all you realise that nothing is the end of the world. I am excited that I made it.
